Subject: Sorry Rogue but some of
your history is inaccurate although it depends on who you believe is credited with having the sistine chapel commissioned. History is one of my hobbies and your reply got me digging deeper.

The ceiling, commissioned by Pope Julius II and under the patronage of Pope Julius II, Michelangelo painted 12,000 square feet (1,100 m2) of the chapel ceiling between 1508 and 1512.

Although you may have been confused as Pope Paul III as one of the most significant artistic works of his reign was the execution of the Last Judgement by Michelangelo in the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican Palace. Although the commission had originated with Paul’s predecessor, it was finished in 1541.

Pope Julius II (c. 5 December 1443 – 21 February 1513)

As you can see the Pope who comissioned the ceiling to be painted by Michaelangelo did in fact die prior to the completion of the 'whole' project, although he did in fact live for one year after the actual painting of chapel ceiling.

I have quoted directly so as not to make any deviations from the references I used. It is all debatable but the original commission was by Pope Julius II and not Pope Paul III. The actual Sistine Chapel was also frescoed by others including Raphael, Bernini, and Sandro Botticelli.

You can check my facts if you like but you will find them sound. Thanks for getting me to read a bit further as I was a little confused at first with your response.
